Giving Tuesday, and a quick personal update

Hi Reader,

When we left Arizona and moved back to Western New York in 2011, I was on the job hunt in the design world—and getting nowhere fast. So, I took a leap and decided to go out on my own.

My very first local project was a logo for our real estate attorney, the same one who helped close on our house. Through that job, I was introduced to Tracy Diina Communications, who handles the copywriting, PR, and basically everything else needed to help businesses and non-profits shine. That one connection way back then has opened so many doors. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Tracy on countless projects for local nonprofit organizations.

Together, we’ve written brochures, designed websites, promoted fundraising and managed more donor letters than I can possibly count—the ones that land in your mailbox around this time of year. These letters may seem small, but they’re truly the heartbeat of many nonprofits. They keep important community services running and remind us all how much good is happening here at home in Western New York, or in your own neighborhood.

As we head into the giving season, I hope you’ll keep nonprofits in mind. It’s been a tough year for many, but your generosity makes a very real difference.

As always, thank you for being here. If you've gotten this far, I appreciate you reading along. The holidays can be a joyous time, but often a stressful time. I know I'm feeling that this year: working hard to take care of my clients, working on my business itself, sending these emails (typos and all), having to say goodbye to a close family friend who passed this week, and of course, trying to slow down to enjoy the season.

If you're feeling particularly overloaded, know you're not alone. This year I was honored to join the volunteer board of a local non-profit, Samaritan Counseling Center. I truly believe in mental health awareness and SCC's mission of providing counseling services to anyone who needs it. Don't be afraid to reach out.

With Gratitude,
